Tahery Cave (New Route) - Oman

When the Indian sub-continent collided with the Southern side of Arabia while it was drifting toward Asia, the Eastren Hajjar mountains were uplifted at rapid speed from under the sea to nearly 5000 feet above sea level. During this uplift, and through erosion of the rocks, one of the region’s largest caving system was formed creating multiple passages and channels inside the Salmah mountain. This is how the Tahery Cave was born.

This used to be one of the most difficult concepts we have. However, we now taking a new easier route to the cave which require medium level endurance. The trip is still a good challenge but the new route is much safer and easier than the older route.

Just like all of our other trips, this trip starts on Thursday evening where the team will head to camp 1  near one of the local villages in Salmah mountain. The team will have a hot meal followed by chilling around the camp fire.

On Friday, about couple of hours before sunrise, the team will wake up for a quick bite and an early start to avoid the heat of the sun. The hike will start instantly, going up a steep hill, then another two steep hills, one of which we call “The grind”. The climb seems never-ending, but once you reach the plateau, it is the end of the tough part, and the beginning of the fun part. The journey continues for 2-3 more hours until you reach the majestic Tahery cave. That’s when you enter into a whole new world. The entrance of the cave is where the team will set up the second camp and will spend one of the most magical nights you could ever imagine. After resting for an hour, we go deep inside the cave for another unforgettable experience. The team will go for about 1 hour, deep inside the cave until reaching the last wall. After that, only a lucky few will get to see what secrets lie behind the wall by climbing up and going deeper still. The “beyond the wall” option is only available for people who had a prior training in using caving equipment and will require special guidance.
