THE ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Muscat and check into your local hotel for a relaxing night after your international flight.

Day 2: Begin with a city tour of Muscat, exploring popular landmarks such as Sultan Qaboos Mosque, Oman’s iconic Opera House and Muttrah corniche and souk. Mutrah is Oman’s economic hub and traditional Arabic market bustling with vendors. Al Dhalam, the Souq with the nearby harbor is one of the oldest marketplaces in the Arab World, strategically located on the way to China and India.You can enjoy views of the corniche and take a short walk around to get a feel of this more traditional part of the city.

Enjoy lunch in a local café before driving 75 km to Wadi Dayqah. Dayqah Damm was built in 2012 to collect the rain falling from the high peaks and to control the water flowing through to the villages below. The result is a stunning fresh water lake and river which extends 7 km from the main body of the damm. Kayak across the stunning freshwater lake before setting up camp for the night. The campsite has access to toilet and shower facilities.

Day 3: After breakfast, drive 98 km to Tiwi, one of Oman’s most picturesque Wadi. Spend the next 2-3 hours bouldering and swimming to reach the large wadi pool. It’s time to change out of your wet gear and tuck into a packed lunch before continuing your journey South on the Sur Coastal Road. Drive 97 km, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to reach Ras Al Jinz. Check into your resort and enjoy dinner before visiting the turtle sanctuary for an nighttime turtle watching experience.

Day 4: The group will tuck into an early breakfast and check out before driving 4.5 hours to Sugar Dunes, covering 356 km distance. Experience white sand dunes as they roll into the Gulf of Oman. Work together to set up a wild camp on the beach and enjoy a short hike before preparing dinner.

Day 5: Tuck into a hearty breakfast and pack up camp before continuing your journey south to Shuwaimiyah, covering a distance of 549 km over 6 hours. This evening will be your second consecutive night wild camping on a deserted beach.

Day 6: After breakfast, pack up camp and drive a further 276 km to reach Salalah. Check into a local resort, freshen up, and head out for dinner. This evening the group will explore Haffa, the famous night market. Specialties include Salalah’s home grown Frankincense, Bakhoor, perfumes and traditional clothing. It’s a great place to pick up your souvenirs!

Day 7: Check out and get ready for a Salalah Exploration day, visit impressive beaches and landmarks of the Dhofar region including Wadi Darbat and Taiq Cave. This evening the group will check into SAMA Jebal Samhan, an eco-mountain resort which sits at an altitude of 2000 m.  

Day 8: Rise and shine for the early morning leopard trail hike. This easy 2 km trail follows the ridge horizontally along the top of Jebel Samhan,with stunning views across Mirbat and out to sea. Tuck into breakfast within the resort, shower and check out before ascending the mountain. It’s time to begin traveling north towards Wahiba Sands, traveling 561 km over approximately 6 hours as you reach the local town of Haima. Check into a guest house and have dinner within a local restaurant.

Day 9: It’s an early rise and breakfast on the go as the group travel 543 km over 6 hours to reach Wadi Bani Khalid. Tuck into a warm lunch on arrival before stretching your legs and exploring the vibrant wadi. The next stop is Wahiba Sands, drive 70km into the heart of the Golden Dunes and check into the desert camp Sama Al Wasil Resort.

Day 10: This morning, after breakfast the drive Northwest begins as the group drive 190 km to the ancient town of Nizwa. Visit the traditional fort and souk before sampling Omani cuisine from a traditional café. Next stop is the Western Hajar mountain range, ascend Jebal Shams ‘Mountain of Sun’ and check into SAMA heights resort. Those looking to stretch their legs can opt for a 1 hour each way hike at sunset to reach the IMAX viewpoint before returning to the resort for dinner.  

Day 11: Breakfast & check out of your accommodation as you set off to the Balcony View start point. Enjoy a leisurely hike along the old Donkey Trail that dates back 300 years. The trek overlooks Oman’s Grand Canyon, it leads to the secret lake and the abandoned village of Sab Bani Khamis. After lunch the group will ascend the mountain, driving 133 km to Jebal Akdhar, the Green Mountain where they will check into their hotel.

Day 12: After breakfast visit Diana’s Point, a site with a spectacular panoramic view that the late Princess Diana enjoyed when she visited Oman in 1986. Explore mountain villages and picturesque views before returning Muscat and checking into your hotel for the evening.

Day 13: A day of rest and relaxation after a fun filled 11 days on the road.

Day 14: Airport drop-off for your departure.
