They say “not every classroom has four walls,” and The Week Without Walls program is here to put this saying into action. Designed to take learning beyond the classroom, this program gives students aged 11-16 years and 16-19 years , the opportunity to engage in international or local based community service, and assists them in realizing their potential to make a difference in the world.

The Week Without Walls program aims to make students better global citizens who are aware of the world beyond them, caring about people and the environment who may not directly impact them, and on the whole encourages them to take action to make the world a better place. The experience stretched over a week is designed to give students a taste of culture, while engaging with the local community and relying on themselves and each other to reach an end goal.

Tying in curriculum and classroom-based knowledge with experiential learning in the great outdoors, the Week Without Walls learning objectives closely mirror the IB Learner Profile.  In particular, there is a strong correlation to the CAS program (Creativity, Action, Service) and the Service as Action program.

This program will allow students the unique chance to step out of their classroom, leave familiar surroundings behind, get out of the comfort of their homes and embark on a journey of self-discovery in which they will learn more about themselves and their surroundings than they ever imagined.

A lot of time and effort is spent creating bespoke daily plans for students to meet specific learning objectives, so rest assured students will walk away with increased curiosity, confidence and the quest to learn more.

This education program will encourage students to undertake new challenges, work with others to achieve a common goal, show perseverance and commitment to a project and engage in activities for personal growth, all while keeping the global environment in mind.

Targeted Outcomes:

  • Apply academic learning along with personal and social skills to real life.

  • Get out of their comfort zone

  • Explore their potential

  •   Work with others to achieve a common goal

  • Develop problem solving skills

  • Explore their potential

  • Develop a sense of responsibility and accountability for their actions.

The best part is that all of the above learning goals are met while having a whole lot of fun. During this week, students get the chance to develop unique bonds with peers, make memories to last a lifetime and embark on a journey within, where they learn a lot about themselves- which would not have been possible within the four walls of a classroom.
